Special Episode: Plea 2010

We Need Your Money. Hello there, everyone! I know it's been a long time since I've released anything but there's a good reason and I need your help.

First the reason why I've not released anything recently and then the reason why I need your help.

As most of you know, we returned from the incredible 2010 trek and photography workshop in the middle of May this year. I was fortunate enough again to be able to co-release Chris Marquardt's wonderful 2010 teaser episode and began editing my own teaser. The trek to the east face and re-visit to the north face of Everest was a truly unique experience and as you saw in Chris' video it was a beautiful trip.

Still, I have my own footage and need to release my own teaser which traditionally are much longer and hopefully just as interesting!

Then, just a couple of weeks after returning home from the trek, on May 28th I had a grand mal seizure. Right out of nowhere. Took my family and I completely by surprise! Luckily I had the seizure sitting next to my wife on a couch in our living room and not at 18,000 feet in Tibet! In any case, the seizure did a number on my back injury resulting in familiar sciatica but that's about it. After a lot of test and scans an doctor visits the final conclusion as to why I had a seizure was ...inconclusive. Apparently these things can just happen without a reason and will most likely never happen again.

So, with all of the doctor visits and physical therapy, not to mention being in pain while sitting at my editing desk, I pretty much disappeared from my podcast audience!

That is the reason I haven't released anything in a while and now for the reason I need your help.

In June I resigned from my job with a local production company I've worked for since 2003. I felt and still feel that it's time to focus on the podcast full-time and couldn't do that while having to work full-time for someone else.

In addition to that, Ben Clark and I are launching a podcast network with plans on producing a variety of new shows in the "Rest of Everest" style but focusing on other mountains and other places and experiences. It's all very exciting but there's only one way we can make it all work--we need your help by providing us financial support. I'm sure you've all heard me say that The Rest of Everest is free to download but not free to produce. Well, now that the podcast is my full-time gig that previous sentence rings even more true.

What we need to keep the Rest of Everest going and to start some new shows is a lot of you to donate a little. Operating costs for podcasting are relatively low but they do exist and I still need to provide for my family. You know, pay the mortgage and buy food and stuff. If a lot of you would be willing to sign up for a monthly recurring $3, $5 or $10 donation then we'll have the monthly operating capital to launch new shows and keep the current ones going. It's really that simple.
